Fuse Electrical Services - Wetherby

We ALWAYS issue a certificate where necessary, it is part of the regulations – BEWARE of anyone (particularly some unscrupulous kitchen and bathroom fitters – NOT ALL OF THEM) who say that they will have to charge you extra for a certificate, it is part of the job. This is the main reason why Part P has been introduced. This type of work always needs one issuing.

Today, we have an increasing need for electrical sockets.

The electrical regulations quote that a lack of sufficient sockets is more of a danger than having too many.

Within reason, there is no limit to the number of sockets one can have in a domestic property.

Quoting directly from the regulations, the minimum number of TWIN sockets recommended is:

Smaller room         Medium room         Larger room

Main living room               4                           6                           8

Double bedroom              3                           4                           5

Kitchen                             6                           8                          10

Conservatory                   3                           4                           5

Kitchen

It is recommended that socket outlets in a kitchen are spaced at not more than one meter intervals above the work surface

Bedrooms kitchens and living rooms

All used in different ways by adults, children or teenagers, but we never have enough sockets for all our:

Table lamps, Electric blankets, Mobile phone chargers, Hair dryers, Alarm clocks, Amplifiers, CD players, T.V.’s Video and DVD players, Games consoles, MP3/4 players, Freeview / Sky receivers, Computers, Printers, Scanners, Monitors, Powered USB hubs, Floor lamps.

The list is endless and these could all just be in a teenager’s bedroom! It isn’t dangerous as such to have extension leads everywhere, but it is far from ideal.

Extensions and conservatories – Think about it carefully!

Call us for a quote and let us do the work properly for you

The times someone has had an extension built then called in an electrician after the plastering and decorating has been done to add some lighting, more sockets, etc.

Your average extension electrical installation will have a couple of sockets in the corner, and a pendant light fitting.

Conservatory companies are famous for “including all the electrics and plumbing” in the quote, but they sub the work out to a contractor, pay them little, and you get a bare minimum done for your money. Perhaps a socket in 2 corners!

Will you be putting a TV in your conservatory or extension – you will need an aerial point too?

All items such as Laptop PC chargers, Video / DVD players, need an electrical outlet as do some children’s toys.

Maybe a digital photo frame? Before you know it, you just haven’t got enough sockets.

Cordless phone stations require a mains connection and a phone socket together.

Will you put an amplifier or radio in, what about a fan?

Do it right first time!

What about outside the building?

How often could you have done with an outside socket?

It would be a great shame if you have to install one AFTER you have just built a conservatory or an extension or perhaps you would like one on an existing wall.

Maybe think about adding some brick lights outside an exit doorway, they will have a useful safety purpose as well as a security measure and will light up an area outside to look at.

Also they could be controlled with a switch or automatically on a light sensor.

Energy efficient bulbs or fittings can be left on for long periods without costing lots on your electricity bill. See the security section!

Sensor / Timer switched can be fitted in rooms or offices that detect when someone is present and automatically switch on the lights. They also turn them off after a set period of inactivity, saving energy and money.

Energy Saving

There are devices that can be fitted to an existing electrical system to measure how much energy is being used in a particular area, the results of which can be monitored on a regular basis and could highlight where savings can be made or if something is wrong.

Even the supply voltage can be reduced from 230 / 240V to around 220V. This results in less current and therefore less power being used, with minimal effect on the equipment being supplied, and again, saving energy and money!

Don’t forget, we carry out all aspects of electrical work, domestic Commercial and Industrial.
